My name is Jeanie Valenzuela, and you may have seen me on the TX21 Indivisible Facebook page, ran into me at Lamar Smith’s, Ted Cruz’s, or John Cornyn’s office, or shared your stories with me on Twitter.  I wanted to take a minute to applaud everyone who is on the ground fighting this administration, and to also let you know why I’m right there with all of you.

First of all, I am a United States citizen.  A United States citizen who is just as horrified as you are by what has happened to our country since November 8, 2016.

Secondly, I am a proud Independent Texas citizen who is represented by at least 7 government officials who stand for everything I am against.

Third, I am a registered voter who cast my vote proudly in November for a candidate who not only won the popular vote, but because of an antiquated system, does not sit in the White House today.

Fourth, I am a constituent of the before mentioned 7 government officials who are completely ignoring my opinions, my requests; my absolute presence in this state.

And finally, after 44 years with my head in the sand, I am now wide awake, and an activist.

I am an activist who takes 2-8 hours out of my day 5 days a week to do everything I can to stop this illegitimate President from destroying our country.  I am talking to, emailing, calling, writing, and standing in front of anyone who will listen and telling them to stop being pawns and stand up for our country and her values.

I am part of TX21 Indivisible and her 1800+ members who are working just as hard, or even harder than I am, to grow our grassroots movement to a size that even the illegitimate President cannot ignore.

So, when you ask me what TX21 Indivisible means to me it’s this.  Everything.

  1. My name is Deborah. TX21 Indivisible means to me a chance to be stronger together. It means that none of us should have to work every day at this if there are many of us, and that we can STILL be on constant watch, on constant alert, in constant action. We are strong, and we are ready. Together we ARE TX21 Indivisible. Each of us has a particular skill, a special ability and getting to share this while in the meantime leaning on someone with a different skill. I can write great slogans for signs. Together, with a neighbor who can distill the message to fewer words and add some art, we can make effective and beautiful signs. I can spend hours watching what legislation the Republicans have filed, and then share that with those who can form the action to counter this. I have a dog in this fight, so to speak. For many years, I have worked with exchange students from Afghanistan (57), Syria (1), Turkey (1) and countless other Muslim countries. Many of them are now “MY” children. I have watched their love of this country grow, and I will not let that fade. I will work hard to restore what I believe is America at its best: free, tolerant, diverse and governed by the rule of law of the people, by the people and for the people. Thank you for the opportunity to share this.

  2. My name is Cherish. TX21 Indivisible means to me the opportunity to finally make my blue values heard in a red state by being part of a community designed to amplify them. I was once a legislative staffer, and a GOP one at that. It was a difficult slog working on the other side of the boundary from my core values. But I met people and worked for legislators for whom I developed a tremendous amount of respect across party lines. And I learned an incredible amount about how the legislative world really works. All of the minutiae that can make or break a bill, a committee appointment, a community initiative, or a bi-partisan relationship. When I walked away, I thought “Pffff, that will never be useful again!” And it hasn’t. Until now. When I read the Indivisible Guide I was galvanized. It put into a concise number of pages everything I knew was true about how to make elected officials accountable to opposition constituents and not just the party faithful of their districts. It made me excited to be alive at this moment in political history when liberals now have in our hands the manual conservative grassroots organizations have always followed, and which I saw working devastatingly effectively for those groups. I immediately looked up Indivisible teams in Texas and found TX21 Indivisible. With this group I believe we have the numbers, the power, the reasons, and now the tools and methods to hold our legislators accountable to recognize *all* of their constituency, and to reclaim a small piece of the ideals underlying American representative government. I am a patriot, and I believe with Thomas Jefferson that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. I’m not ready to give up, I’m not going to jump ship on my country or my state, and I’m here to stay.
